Mikado's new Stabilizer Control Bridge (#3037)

What we wanted!

The demand was certainly there... The bent links were known to pop off on ocassion. For some it was improper setup - I've seen a rotor head with scuffing from the bent link on the blade grip. For others it was extreme cyclic response - lightend, 3-D paddles used in conjunction with a longer flybar. Perhaps maintenance replacement of worn links was overdue. Others were known competent operators and pilots who also suffered this problem for no apparent reason. Myself, being a competent "setter-upper" and not an extreme 3-D flier, I never had a problem in hundreds and hundreds of flights on the LOGO 20 and LOGO 10. Whatever the reasons, the links were popping off and an improvement was needed. Mikado had told of a new bridge with a metal ball and a washer to be used as a keeper, and really, that is all I expected - a modified, drilled-out bridge. Upon viewing the new bridge, I am pleased to report that besides the anticipated steel ball and keeper, there's a new molded part with several improvements.

These improvements include:

  • rounded corners
  • slightly thicker frame
  • socket head screws
  • gussets on tht bottom as well as the top, with the top ones arching around the corners a bit
  • Stronger result - much harder to twist
  • raised flange for proper "interface" with the bearings

The new bridge (fully assembled but without the link in the photo) weighs 1 or 2 grams more than the original. The washer/keeper barely fits past the larger, inner openning of the lnk, but it's too wide to pass through the narrower outer opening (off course one wants this!). This means that one needs to remove the little hex bolt and ball to remove the link.

Here's a few photos....

On the far end, the bottom clamp is installed and the raised flange for proper fit against the bearing can be seen.
