ESC - BEC hookup

Here's a few photos of how I hook up a BEC to my speed controllers. This is what I've done recently for my Bionic. The reason why I splice onto the ESC battery leads instead of soldering directly to the connector is that I prefer to have the thin ESC power lead in a more protected area where it is not handled every time the battery is connected. Also, in every case the lead was not long enough to reach any further. The work done in the photo on the right was started only after a careful mockup in the heli to get the wiring the correct length and also make sure that it can be installed and removed as a single unit.

I carefully stripped a section of each wire and then worked the tip of an awl through the wire to make a "receptacle" for the smaller wire. After the wire was inserted, the two wires wer held tightly just to the left of the joint and then the stranded part was given a twist to mechanically secure the wire.

The joints have been soldered.

Heat shrink has been applied here. Afterwards I added another piece, slightly longer.

Here's a closeup of the Kontronik ferrite ring, Mikado part number 02599
